Delegation that builds ownership

You have handed over the work, but the questions keep coming back. Work out whether the missing piece is capacity, clarity, authority or support, then practise a handover that gives someone room to deliver.

For line managers • Estimated 60–75 minutes • Self-paced • SCORM 1.2 for your organisation’s LMS

What you will practise

  • Choose work that can be delegated and check whether it fits alongside existing commitments, including learning and checking time.
  • Agree a clear result, quality expectations, boundaries and which decisions the person can make.
  • Choose explanation, demonstration, coaching or space according to the task and the person’s current experience.
  • Reset scope, priorities or timing when work changes, while keeping managerial decisions and responsibilities clear.
  • Review progress and reduce support deliberately, using evidence rather than treating every question as a reason to take the work back.

Inside the course

Seven modules follow the work from the first handover to a later review: Why work comes back; Make work fit; Agree work and authority; Match support to the task; Reset changed work; Review and reduce support; and A fresh case and your next agreement.

Use seven practical workspaces to test a capacity plan, repair an agreement, choose support and work through changing circumstances. Branching practice, rehearsal and three additional transfer cases ask you to make a decision and see what follows. The course includes scenario films, captions and equivalent written scene information.

Tools to take back to work

  • Delegation agreement and capacity and fairness check.
  • Adaptive support and authority plan, plus a scope reset and check-in sheet.
  • A 7–14-day workplace reflection, with the tools also collected in a PDF and Word pack.

Assessment and completion

Work through all modules and the required practices, workspaces and transfer tasks, then achieve at least 80% in the ten-question final assessment. Feedback and retries support learning. A downloadable completion certificate records the course requirements you have met.

Licence and practical details

Discuss an annual or permanent fixed-version licence for your organisation. Pricing depends on organisation size, with a charity discount and bulk orders by enquiry. Check the package in your own LMS before rollout.

Allow an estimated 60–75 minutes, including practice. This is a planned self-paced duration, not measured learner timing. Use fictional details during the course and follow your organisation’s actual authority, capacity and approval arrangements at work.
